At the mentioning of mahjong, many people in Hong Kong would perk up! It is a game
played by four people using tiles inscribed with the suit and value. It's said to resemble gin rummy. If you ever
go to a Hong Kong wedding banquet, 9 times out of 10 you will see it played before
the courses are served. Officially it is a form of gambling banned except in mahjong
"schools", but it is played in homes, in stores after closing time,
and in restaurants.
Though it is a popular game, due to its addictive nature,
many are quite against it since they have grown up in families where one or both
parents were absentee parents because of it.
