A 4-Hour Tour of Hong Kong

Above: Star Ferry in Tsim Sha Tsuil district with Central district across the harbor in Central district on Hong Kong Island.

You have just 4 hours in Hong Kong? That is not much especially since the airport is a ways from urban Hong Kong. But here is a sample itinerary touring some key attractions that you can run through on your own.

  1. get out of the plane and through immigrations and customs (takes about 1 hour)
  2. take Airport Express to Hong Kong station (see airport transportation) (takes about 1/2 hour)
  3. walk to Star Ferry pier (takes about 20 minutes)
  4. ride Star Ferry to Tsim Sha Tsui (takes about 15 minutes, wating incl.)
  5. walk on Tsim Sha Tsui promenade (stay for only 15 minutes)
  6. ride Star Ferry back to Central (takes about 15 minutes, wating incl.)
  7. walk back to Airport Express station (takes about 20 minutes)
  8. ride the Airport Express back to the airport from the "Hong Kong" station (takes about 1/2 hour)
  9. go through immigrations ( allow 1/2 hour)
  10. run to the gate for boarding

A word of caution: this is a very agressive tour requiring you to move fast, and all the times given are very approximate. So watch your time so that you don't miss your flight. Something to encourage you not to miss your flight: hotel rooms in Hong Kong are very expensive especially when you don't have advance booking.
